VETERANS AND ARMED FORCES DAY

April 4th, 2018.

The annual Veterans and Armed Forces Day has been arranged for the whole of the District of Lewes and surrounding towns and villages by a joint committee of Seaford Town Council and the Seahaven Branch of The Royal Society of St George (RSSG). It will be a special event this year to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Armistice, which ended the First World War. The venue is Martello Fields, Seaford, on Saturday the 30th of June from 11.00am.

There will be something for everyone of all ages, with a programme of arena displays and entertainment throughout the day and also a family funfair and many local charities and other organisations will have stalls. There will be some military vehicles and other military items on display.

The day will end with a ‘Tug of War’ that everyone can join in!

The organising committee has announced that funds raised from the day will be donated to Combat Stress, the UK’s leading veteran’s mental health charity. Combat Stress provides a vital lifeline with treatment and support for over 6,000 veterans and their families.

The event will be opened at 11.00am by the Mayor of Seaford and the President of the Seahaven Branch RSSG.

At 12.30pm the parade of Veterans and members of the Cadet Services will march past the Lord Lieutenant, Mr Peter Field, along with the Mayor of Seaford and the President of RSSG. Many local civic leaders will witness the parade, which is then inspected in the arena by the Lord Lieutenant.

Car parking is arranged by the Newhaven Station of the National Coastwatch Institute, First Aid cover will be provided by the Seaford Life Guards and refreshments will be provided by the Rotary Club’s Tavern in the Tent.

Stallholders are currently being organised for the event, so if you are interested in having a stall contact facilities@seafordtowncouncil.gov.uk or phone 01323 872975 to book your space.
