TRIPS TO THE TIP ARE BEING PRUNED BACK

August 11h, 2017.

LDC release:

There is good news this week for anyone keen to sign up for Lewes District Council’s green waste collections - the service is now available wherever you live in the district.

The implementation plan is two years ahead of schedule with new customers joining the scheme every day.

Councillor Paul Franklin, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Waste and Recycling, said: “I’m thrilled that we have accelerated the plan to give all of our residents access to this superb, reliable and environmentally friendly service.

“Garden waste is being conveniently collected and taken away for composting in our district. It makes so much more sense for anyone with a garden, rather than driving all the way to the tip.”
Once signed-up the council will deliver a 240-litre garden waste wheelie bin and a calendar showing all the fortnightly collection dates. An assisted collection service is also available.
Councillor Franklin added:
“If you don't think you’ll fill a wheelie bin every two weeks you could speak to a neighbour and share the service, and the cost, and the convenience!”

The annual subscription is £70 and this also includes a 240-litre green waste bin at no extra cost. The council also offer payment schemes for those who would like to spread the cost over a period of time.

By charging for the service residents who do not have a garden, who compost at home, or who do not wish to use the service, do not pay for the service through their Council Tax.

You can sign-up online at www.lewes.gov.uk/waste or by calling 01273 471600.
