ST GEORGE IN ACTION

June 24th, 2019.

Another couple of busy days for the Seaford branch of The Royal Society of St George; On Friday, branch President Laurie Holland went with Rosemary Holland to the headquarters of the Armed Forces Charity Combat Stress at Leatherhead in Surrey. On the way they collected RSSG Chairman Joanna Cadman.

The purpose of the visit was to present the charity with a cheque for just over £400, being the amount of sponsorship Rosemary and Joanna gained for their 20 mile walk 'Up the Ouse and down the Cuckmere'. Joanna Cadman is aiming to walk 125 miles this year to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the foundation of The Royal Society of St George - 1894. This mileage to be completed in small chunks with different English Branches - So only 105 miles to go!

On Saturday, President Laurie Holland and Vice Chairman Ann Abbott visited The Hub in Peacehaven to see the Peacehaven Martial Arts Group. This was to present a special Chinese Drum to use at demonstrations in the area. This will be a great way to show off the young people's skills and disciplines, as well as entertain audiences. The drum was used for the first time by young Jack Bassett. Instructor Jodie Fincham accepted the gift on behalf of the group. A Just Giving account has been arranged to raise funds for the Lion costume they now need to go with the drum. Donate HERE..

Seahaven Branch chairman Bob Peedle MBE outlined what the Royal Society does, explaining: "Since the formation of our Seahaven branch in 2010, it has been a pleasure and privilege to support so many local charities and worthwhile groups with gifts, especially when they support the youth in our area."

The next commitments for the branch are Veterans and Armed Forces Day at Martello Fields next Saturday, an event for the whole of the District of Lewes and surrounding towns and villages, and then, on Saturday the 27th of July, there is a special banquet to celebrate the 125th year of The Royal Society of St George. Any of the local organisations or charities that have received gifts from the Seahaven Branch are welcome to attend - For information contact the chairman, Bob Peedle MBE on 5414928@talktalk.net.
