SEAHAVEN VETERANS’ AND ARMED FORCES’ DAY - SATURDAY 30th JUNE 2012

April 17 2012.

Due to the Jubilee Celebrations being followed by the Olympics, the organising committee of the Seahaven Veterans' and Armed Forces Day has decided to scale down this year's event to a special Band Concert on the Seaford Sea Front. The determination is, however, that next year the day will return to be fully commemorated as in previous years.

On Saturday 30th June, the Concert will take place at the Martello Tower on Seaford Sea Front at 2.30pm. The band will play until 3.00pm, when a static parade of standards, veterans and service cadets will take place and be inspected. The band will resume at 3.30pm and the event close at 4.00pm.

The Seaford Silver Band has kindly agreed to play on this special occasion and the Inspecting Officer will be the Vice Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mrs Sara Stonor.

The event will be free and it is hoped it will attract many veterans and their families. Those attending might wish to bring their own seating.

The organising committee consists of representatives of Seaford Town Council, the Seahaven Branch of 'The Royal Society of St George', the Seahaven Branch of RAFA, Rotary, Seaford Silver Band and the Seaford Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Local branches of Forces Charities and the Service Cadets are invited to attend with their standards and members, and to have stalls in the vicinity as directed by a representative of the Town Council.

Seaford's Museum of local history will open at 1.30pm, with free admission for the afternoon. Visitors will be able see the military history display, buy from the shop and much more.

Toilet and refreshments facilities are nearby on the sea front and parking is free.
