SEAFORD REMEMBERS WW1

November 9th, 2018.

A group of local artists and historians are collaborating on a special commemorative event to mark 100 years since the end of World War 1, in Seaford.

Local historian Kevin Gordon begins the weekend tonight with a free talk in the Crypt Gallery about the Armistice at 7.00pm. There is no need to book to attend this fascinating talk, doors open at 6.45pm.

Throughout the weekend from 6.00pm to 10.00pm there will be projections in the front windows of The Crypt Gallery, Seaford Library and David Jordan Estate Agents. These will include specially created ‘poppy’ animated sequences by film and animation specialists, Filmspot, as well as photographs of local and locally-stationed troops who died during WW1, as well as war graves images.

On Saturday, The Crypt Gallery will have two installations from the There But Not There campaign, as well as an exhibition of artefacts, including contributions from two local residents, who will also be in the gallery during the day to talk about their grandfathers - local serving men. The There But Not There campaign is a national commemoration initiative, providing silhouette military figures to communities throughout the country.

On Sunday, Seaford Community Cinema is showing Journey’s End, a poignant film about WW1 at 4.00pm, preceded by a short film in which Brighton poet Tommy Sissons recites Our Children Will Inhabit a Wilderness. See the Seaford Community Cinema website for ticket details.

The event finishes on Sunday evening with St Leonard’s Church Bell ringers joining with other bell ringers around the country in a coordinated ring.
