Seaford Community Partnership, working with the Seaford Museum & Heritage Society and the Town Council, has launched a web site at www.seafordheritagetrails.co.uk. The new mobile-friendly website was designed by Fiona House of the Big Hedge and supports the existing leaflets and information boards around the town and along the seafront. 

Follow the trail with your mobile and learn about the fascinating history of Seaford. Additional locations feature on the website and there are further articles and photographs of how things used to be. So far, the website features two trails in and around Seaford – more are planned.

The Heritage Trail takes you on a tour of the town, starting at the Railway Station, and features 14 locations ending back in Broad Street, convenient for a coffee and cake at one of Seaford’s excellent cafes. The trail can easily be completed in a couple of hours if completed all in one go. On the way you can read more about the buildings and the people who lived in them or who helped create the town of Seaford. The Exercise Path starts at Splash Point along the seafront to Tide Mills and then returns via the railway crossing and the Buckle covering some five miles.

Seaford seafront has changed much over the last 150 years and the website tells about many of the buildings that have gone, including the Buckle Inn, the Esplanade and Eversley Hotels and the home of one of Seaford’s grand families, Telesmaure. Learn about the military use of the seafront, the Martello Tower and the Blatchington and Seaford Batteries.

The website also has links to a number of other easily accessible local trails, the Rathfinny Vineyard Trail to the north, the Eric Slater Art Trail to the east and the Poppy Trail about Newhaven in the first world war to the west. Happy Walking.
