SEAFORD JOINS WAVE OF PROTEST ALONG THE COAST TO URGE CLIMATE ACTION AT G7

June 11th, 2021.

As part of the national coastal 'Wave' of protests, Extinction Rebellion lit 18 beacons along the south coast yesterday evening to mark the start of the G7 summit in Cornwall.

In Sussex, fires were lit at Winchelsea, Lewes Black Cap, Hove Lagoon and Petersfield. The Sussex beacons have warned of danger for many centuries and in Elizabethan times raised the alarm about the Spanish Armada.

A member of the group said: "Climate and ecological breakdown is the greatest threat to our safety. We are using the beacons and other protests to raise the alarm because governments and the media don't want to tell the truth. They just set long-term targets to distract from the fact that they are not meeting their short-term goals set out in the Paris Agreement in 2015."

Protests will continue throughout the weekend at the G7 summit in Cornwall.
