FRIENDS OF TIDE MILLS MARCH MEETING

March 19th, 2018.

Jim Skinner reports:

Thirteen members of the Friends of Tide Mills completed their March meeting yesterday, collecting four sacks of assorted litter and one bag of recyclable material.

Due to the extremely cold weather, the meeting was shortened to just one hour this time.

We have now re-installed the Ringed Plover nesting signs for this year. We take this as an indicator that Spring is just around the corner, although this was hard to believe it has to be said.

Another indicator is the sighting of the first Wheatears of the season. Avocets, a rare visitor to Tide Mills, can also be seen on MIll Creek together with small flocks of Ringed Plover and Knot. Teal and Widgeon are also being sighted on the sea.

As always we ask that visitors reduce disturbance in the signed area to give the Plovers every chance of a successful breeding season. We will remove the signs July/ August.

If readers are interested in joining our informal, very friendly, small, but steadily growing group of Tide Mills guardians you will be made most welcome.

Our next meeting is Sunday the 15th of April.
