NEWLANDS SCHOOL APPLICATION - REVISED PLANS

March 9th 2017.

Jaynic Properties Ltd has submitted revised plans for the proposed residential development at the former Newlands School Site, Eastbourne Road, Seaford.

The original plans submitted to Lewes District Council in September 2016 for 238 dwellings were shelved in December following objections from Seaford Town Council, Sport England, Lewes District Council’s Conservation Officer and local residents.

The revised plans were submitted on 3rd March 2017 and show a reviewed scheme for 183 dwellings with significant amendments to the layout.

The spine road leading from the access to Eastbourne Road up to the main school building is retained but the proposed housing to the west of that road has been replaced by a new full-size sports pitch with space for changing rooms and parking. This revision is in direct response to the objection from Sport England and Seaford Town Council to the loss of public sports facilities arising from the original plans.

The removal of the proposed housing from this area is also intended to improve the setting of the Grade II Listed Building, Sutton Place. This had been the basis of the Conservation Officer’s objection.

The provision of a sports pitch to the west of the spine road and the setting back of the proposed housing to the east of the road is also intended to open up views into the site from the Eastbourne Road (A259).

The revised plans and supporting documents are available for inspection at the Town Council’s Office at 37 Church Street between 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

The plans can also be found on the Lewes D.C website under reference LW/16/0800 at www.lewes.gov.uk/planning/1139.asp

Comments from members of the public on the revised plans should be submitted to Lewes District Council by Monday 27th March 2017.

As a consultee, the Town Council will consider its formal response to the revised plans at a public meeting on Thursday the 6th of April from 7.00pm at The View, Southdown Road, Seaford, BN25 4JS.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend and will be allowed to speak.
