NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO RIB WITH ELECTRICAL FAILURE

August 16th, 2017.

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland’ and her volunteer crew were launched at 6:55pm on Monday to a 20ft RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat), which had suffered electrical failure one mile south of Rottingdean.

The lifeboat headed to the position at cruising speed. Once alongside a tow line was established in the calm conditions. The casualty vessel with three persons on board was then towed safely back to Newhaven and put alongside in the marina 8:20pm.

The lifeboat returned to station at around 8:35pm.

Deputy Second Coxswain Lee Blacknell commented: “These gentlemen were very fortunate their mobile phone had signal and that conditions were calm. Please always ‘think safety’ making sure that you have the appropriate safety equipment, including a VHF radio.”
