NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO DIVE RIB WITH ELECTRICAL FAILURE

August 14th, 2017.

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland’ and her volunteer crew were launched at 9:48am yesterday to a 7.5 metre dive rib which had suffered electrical failure ten miles south east of Newhaven.

The lifeboat made its way to the position at cruising speed, as the rib was safely anchored with no divers in the water. Weather conditions at the time were good with a light northerly breeze, calm seas and unbroken sunshine. Once on scene, the nine persons on board, who were all uninjured, were transferred on to the lifeboat.

A tow was established and the casualty vessel was then safely bought back to Newhaven and put alongside in the marina at midday.

The lifeboat returned to station at around 12:05pm.
