NEWHAVEN HISTORICAL SOCIETY PRESENTATION - MAGNUS VOLK AND HIS RAILWAYS AT BRIGHTON

Newhaven Historical Society's popular monthly presentations continue next Tuesday, October the 3rd, with an illustrated talk by Ian Gledhill.


The venue is The Hillcrest Centre, Hillcrest Road, Newhaven, BN9 9EA. The doors open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. Guests are invited to attend at a charge of just £5.00. Or you could join Newhaven Historical Society and get free admission to events.

Ian Gledhill had a varied career including TV, theatre, engineering, travel and tourism. He now divides his time between giving lectures and as Chairman and a driver for the Volk’s Electric Railway.

Magnus Volk (1851–1937) was a pioneer British electrical engineer. He is most notable for having built Volk's Electric Railway, the world's oldest extant electric railway. He also built the unique, but short-lived, Brighton and Rottingdean Seashore Electric Railway, together with its unusual Daddy Long Legs vehicle.
