MISCELLANY OF SONGS

May 27th, 2019.

SBC Singers, based at Seaford Baptist Church, are well known for singing for Church events and in concerts of popular songs. Their next concert will be a new venture, welcoming a visiting Choir from Germany.

The combined choirs' concert Midsummer Miscellany of Popular Songs is at 7.00pm this Friday, the 31st of May, at Seaford Baptist Church. The programme ranges from Mozart and Sibelius via Lionel Bart and Sussex by the Sea to Elvis, Abba and The Troggs. There will also be guest instrumentalists.

The Church's staff development fund, Structure for Growth, and the German PopChor funds, will both benefit from a retiring collection, but entrance is free.

The Bönningstedt PopChor Come Together, from Seaford's long-standing twin town, have sung in Seaford many times before, with the Silver Band and with Archway Choirs, and once drew an audience of 300 to the Martello Tower forecourt. They are making a four-day visit to Seaford, and may well pop-up to sing both in the town centre and on the seafront on Friday.

Popular tunes, audience participation and a fun evening are on the menu at the concert, and everyone is welcome. The PopChor will probably carry on singing into the evening at a nearby pub.

Seaford has been twinned with Bönningstedt, a small-town just north of Hamburg, since 1984. The Twinning Associations in both towns have been put on ice, but the partnership is still in existence, and individuals and small groups still make visits, despite the confusion which is Brexit. Seaford also runs the Plauschgruppe, a monthly German conversation group which meets in pubs and cafés.
