INFORMATION AND ADVICE HUB OPENS IN NEWHAVEN

October 7 2016.

A Big Lottery funded Information and Advice Hub was officially opened yesterday at SCDA, Unit 9, The Hub, 3 Drove Road, Newhaven BN9 0AD.

Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA) and Lewes District CAB received £453,823 from the Big Lottery Fund to finance the new partnership project for the next three years.

The service aims to help residents gain access to quality-assured advice and assistance from two Community Navigators to guide the way through the complex array of services. The Hub is available to Lewes District residents, with a particular focus on the coastal strip between Telscombe and Seaford. The project will be delivered by specialist staff and trained volunteers working with clients, particularly focusing on the hardest to reach groups.

Chief Executive at Sussex Community Development Association, Penny Shimmin, said: “We’re thrilled that the Lottery has funded this project. With this funding people will be able to access the help they need, to be empowered to help themselves in the future by understanding more about local services and to be more involved in their community.”

To meet the need for quality advice in the area, Lewes District CAB provides a part-time Generalist Adviser at the Information and Advice Hub, and also to provides training to the Information Assistants who are recruited by SCDA. District Manager at Lewes District CAB, Jackie Wilkes, said: “We are delighted to be working on this project which demonstrates that local agencies are working in partnership for the good of the local community.”
