HAVENS VOLUNTEER DRIVERS SUPPORT COVID VACCINATION PUSH

January 18th, 2021.

One of the most memorable journeys undertaken by a Havens Community Cars volunteer driver this week was for a 93-year-old couple to get their Covid vaccine after celebrating their 70th Wedding Anniversary.

The driver reported: "They were a lovely couple who said the vaccine was the best gift they had received. They said they didn't want any of their remaining time together cut short."

The charity, which only launched in September 2020, has already enabled dozens of over 80's to receive the vaccine over the past week, and is appealing for more drivers to come forward to help. Residents from Saltdean to Seaford - the Havens - who are unable to use public transport can access the service.

Chair of Trustees, Paula Woolven, said: "We are delighted that the community is stepping up to offer support. Havens Community Cars offers full training, DBS checks and PPE equipment, with fuel reimbursement for our volunteers. And we are fast-tracking as many new drivers as possible to help with the vaccination effort."
