GHANA SHOEBOX APPEAL

February 5th, 2024.

Jenni Arhinful recently started a new Community Interest Company to promote diversity and inclusion within the Havens area, by way of various projects such as holding cultural-themed events/workshops in Seaford (Mercread Centre), coordinating a shoebox appeal for a school in Ghana, and a pen pal project for groups.

Jenni is currently on a mission for the shoebox appeal to get every child allocated at the school by mid-February to send in time for Easter. Basically, families choose a child's name, then fill a shoebox with small gifts, stationery, sweets, useful items. There are just over 400 children at the school there.

Local families already involved have already given positive feedback about how much their children have enjoyed making up the shoeboxes and writing letters, for their specific child in Ghana.

The school staff in Ghana facilitate the children writing back, to keep the communication going, to learn about each other's cultures and customs.

The penpal project can be as creative as we like too, with poetry, art etc involved, they are very flexible and open to ideas, if any creative groups or schools wished to do a certain themed project with them.
