FRIENDS OF TIDE MILLS MAY MEETING

May 19th, 2019.

Jim Skinner reports:

The Friends of Tide Mills completed their May meeting today when 22 of us managed to collect just two sacks of rubbish. This is a new low record for us and just helps to show how well Tide Mills area is being cared for now, not just ourselves but many other people and community groups as well. This is brilliant and helps to also show that one of our aims when we started in 2005 has been achieved, namely to put Tide Mills firmly "on the map".

There is no doubt that this special place gives so many people much pleasure and is very much appreciated by everybody who visits.

Our view remains that Tide Mills is a local jewel of a place and really should be officially recognised, managed and nurtured as such. We firmly believe this message is starting to be accepted now by our councils and other official bodies. We sincerely thank everybody who helps in this endeavour. I is very much appreciated.

The vegetated shingle plants are now in full flower, the birds are very active, and all in all, now is probably the optimum time to visit.

We have received a report of two Ringed Plover chicks. Another positive sign that the wildlife also appreciates the diverse range of habitats available.

Obviously, we can never have enough volunteers to help us keep Tide Mills cared for and championed, so please do come along to one of our meetings. You will be made most welcome.

Our next meeting is Sunday the 16th of June, nominally 10.00 til 12.00. Please contact me at brianjimskinner@gmail.com or visit www.friendsoftidemills.webs.com
