FRIENDS OF TIDE MILLS FEBRUARY MEETING

February 19th, 2018.

Jim Skinner writes:

25 members of the Friends of Tide Mills enjoyed their February meeting yesterday, collecting 11 sacks of assorted litter, plus one bag of recyclable material. This number of members at a monthly meeting is an all-time record for us and is very heartening indeed.

We again extend our sincere thanks to all, who, like us, appreciate Tide Mills as the invaluable open space it remains and who take a little time to help in keeping it so well cared for and championed.

As we have previously reported, the Brett Aggregates final planning application is now with ESCC planners. No date for the meeting to decide this application has yet been set.

Readers will be interested to hear of a public demonstration against the Brett application taking place at 3.00pm on the 3rd of March, down at the Newhaven Port end of Tide Mills. The FOTM has lodged an official objection to these proposals and would like to encourage as many people as possible to attend the protest.

The other two issues of major concern, are:

1) The application for a "small" medical waste incinerator, details of which can be found HERE.

2) The pressing ahead by ESCC of the construction of the Port Access Road into Tide Mills, for which significant site clearance has now begun.

The Friends of Tide Mills will continue to voice its serious concerns about both proposals whenever it can. Tide Mills is undoubtedly becoming a significant economic asset, not just to Newhaven and Seaford, but the wider Lewes district as well. It now needs protecting, nurturing and managing sympathetically as never before.

If readers are interested in joining our informal, very friendly, small but steadily growing group of Tide Mills guardians, you will be made most welcome.

Our next meeting is Sunday the 18th of March. Please contact me at brianjimskinner@gmail.com or go to our website at www.friendsoftidemills.webs.com/
