FRIENDS OF TIDE MILLS APRIL MEETING

April 16th, 2018.

Jim Skinner writes:

Twenty-five members of the Friends of Tide Mills completed their April meeting yesterday, collecting six sacks of assorted litter, and one bag of recyclable material.

As we reported last month, we have now re-installed the Ringed Plover nesting signs for this year. The Ringed Plovers and several other seasonal visitors are now to be seen once more as we slowly move into Spring.

With the slowly emerging vegetated shingle plants, this is a very good time to visit this local jewel and appreciate just what a special place it remains, despite the well-reported and ongoing threats at the Newhaven end of the site (The Port Acess Road and Brett aggregates application).

As always, we ask that visitors reduce disturbance in the signed area to give the Plovers every chance of a successful breeding season. We will remove the signs in July/August.

If readers are interested in joining our informal, very friendly, small, but steadily growing group of Tide Mills guardians, you will be made most welcome.

Our next meeting is Sunday the 20th of May. Please contact me at brianjimskinner@gmail.com or go to our website at
