EMPLOYMENT MINISTER VISITS NEWHAVEN JOBCENTRE

April 6th, 2022.

A Jobcentre Plus was in the spotlight this week as Minister for Employment, Mims Davies MP, visited the site in Newhaven.

Work Coaches at the jobcentre on the High Street have joined thousands of colleagues up and down the country at the forefront of the government’s drive to get 500,000 people currently out of work into jobs by the end of the summer as part of the ‘Way to Work’ campaign.

The Minister for Employment spoke to Work Coaches who specialise in supporting self-employed customers, hearing about how they will be supporting a wide range of customers with one-on-one tailored support.

Mims Davies MP, Minister for Employment said: “We know how much it benefits people to get into work – not just financially but also for their wellbeing – which is why we’re boosting our local DWP Jobcentre support in communities across the UK.

“I was delighted to meet Work Coaches in Newhaven today alongside local MP Maria Caulfield to showcase our Way to Work campaign building on the success of the Kickstart scheme. They are daily delivering a high quality and tailored service, making a positive difference to the lives of so many individuals.

“Our Work Coaches truly go above and beyond to help jobseekers no matter their circumstances and work to unlock any employment barriers, guiding them towards new work and upskilling opportunities to have brighter futures.”

DWP Work Coach Jemma based at Newhaven Jobcentre said: “I was recently working with a lone parent with three children affected by the benefit cap. She was a talented seamstress and designer who made all her own children’s clothing. I utilised a wide range of resources including a benefit calculation website to demonstrate how being in work would make her better off financially along with flexible support fund and upfront childcare costs. This enabled her to quickly overcome the benefit cap and set up self-employed work in a career that she is passionate about.”
