DEADLINE NEARS FOR EU SETTLEMENT SCHEME

June 23rd, 2021.

Lewes District Council is reminding any European Union citizens living in the district that time is running out to apply for settled status.

All EEA and Swiss citizens and their family members who were resident in the UK by December the 31st, 2020, have until June the 30th 2021 to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme.

The scheme allows a person and their family members to get the immigration status they will need to continue to live, work and study in the UK and access public services.

Councillor James MacCLeary, Leader of Lewes District Council, explains: “With just a fortnight left until the deadline for applications, anyone in Lewes district who is currently in the UK under the previous EU treaty right should act now to seek settled status.

“Support is available for people who require extra help in applying, so don’t delay in reaching out for assistance."

Since the scheme was launched in March 2019, more than 5.4 million applications have been made and over 4.9 million grants of status - however it is understood there is a backlog of applications.
