CTLA TRAVEL CLUB IS BACK

June 4th, 2021.

The Travel Club is a popular part of the range of services offered by award-winning local charity, Community Transport for the Lewes Area (CTLA). CTLA helps older and more vulnerable people to live a more socially inclusive lifestyle by getting out of their homes and enjoying the chance to meet and chat with others.

Typically, CTLA offers two or three trips a week for members to book, and they are always very popular. Sadly, all trips had to be cancelled with the onset of Covid-19 in March 2020, as members went into shielding to protect themselves.

The great news is that the Travel Club is back, and on the 2nd of June, the Charity’s staff and volunteers organised transport for several members, from their homes to the Hillcrest Centre using four of CTLAs minibuses. The members were treated to a roast dinner and a chance to catch up with their fellow members. There was also a raffle and bingo session before they were transported home.

CTLA General Manager Kerrie Smart-Jones said: “For some members who have no family close by, the trip out on a CTLA minibus is the only time they get to enjoy meeting others. Even though we kept in touch and continued to support our members throughout the pandemic, dropping off their shopping and prescription medicines, the long period at home has been particularly difficult. We are delighted to re-start our programme of outings and are looking at ways we can expand the programme in the coming months.”

CTLA’s Lorraine Ward, who organises the Travel Club, added: “Everyone was delighted to enjoy some normality, with Covid restrictions easing and members and staff now fully vaccinated. It was a pleasure to re-launch the Travel Club with a socially distanced and Covid-safe luncheon at the Hillcrest Centre.”
