BUSINESS GRANTS GO LIVE IN LEWES DISTRICT

April 6th, 2020.

A grant scheme to support local businesses hit by the coronavirus crisis is to go live in Lewes district with windfalls of up to £25,000 available for eligible SMEs.

The council will begin awarding grants of £10,000 and £25,000 to businesses - firms simply have to register on the council website when the scheme launches next week.

The launch was delayed by the government making numerous changes to the guidance for implementing the scheme, meaning each payment system had to be reconfigured by the council.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of Lewes District Council, said: “The government delay was frustrating for everyone, but our officers have been working night and day to get a process in place that will provide businesses with the support they need.

“The council is pulling out all the stops to support local enterprise and help get them through this unprecedented time of crisis for the economy and the country.”

The grants include the Small Business Grant Funding (£10,000) and the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund that will make payments up to £25,000.

Once registered and with the necessary information uploaded, an automated system will undertake the required validation and payments to the businesses will follow.
