BURLEYS RENOVATES CROUCH BOWLING GREEN

October 23rd, 2017.

Burleys, part of the TCL Group, is hard at work renovating Seaford's Crouch Bowling Green, which is used by top-class players competing in competitions at a national level.

Crouch Bowling Green, which is owned by Seaford Town Council, has been in use since 1935 and its team regularly play in national and county championships.

The renovation work, to ensure the green is of a perfect standard, involves removing the thatch compaction and improving its structure.

TCL’s Paul Donno, who not only has ten years’ fine turf experience but is also the proud father of a 23-year-old daughter who recently won the under 25s Sussex Pairs Championship, explained: “This is a highly skilled operation involving four tonnes of sand, seed and fertiliser.

“The fine turf team have to scarify and aerate the lawn with a fine tine in opposing diagonal directions, removing all the disturbed soil, so it is completely clear of any debris. The green is then covered in sand and seed and all the surplus removed. This ensures a perfect new lawn for bowling the following season.”

The team’s work has been praised by bowling green member Mike Nolan who said: “Our club has now one of the best greens in the county.”

Burleys takes great pride in its fine turf work, and manages 16 greens throughout the South East.
