BATTLE OF BRITAIN COMMEMORATION AT NEWHAVEN FORT

In commemoration of the Battle of Britain, Newhaven Fort will be hosting a day of 1940s nostalgia this Sunday. the 7th of September.


Doors open for the Fort’s annual Battle of Britain Commemoration Day at 10:30am with a special programme of events and activities throughout the day.

Visitors can take a step back in time when the entertainment begins at 11.00am with a performance from Lancing Brass Band, followed by a 1940s dance display by Newhaven’s Studio Tempo in the atmospheric Romney Hut.

The Fort  welcomes back singing duo, the Swingtime Sweethearts, along with the award-winning Puttin’ on the Blitz barbershop quartet, who will be transporting visitors back to the era with their 1940s songs.

An array of period military vehicles will be setting the scene on the Fort’s parade ground throughout the day and there will be a number of living history groups on site to help create that perfect WWII atmosphere. And if you get in the mood and want to blend in you can visit the Pretty Pout vintage hair salon.

Staff at Newhaven Fort are also hosting the annual Women’s Land Army reunion, where guests will be travelling from all over the south to reunite and meet with old friends and colleagues.

The Fort’s fascinating displays, under 12’s adventure playground, Searchlight Café and Guard Room gift shop will also be open for visitors to enjoy.
